What Is The Open Graph API?

Written on October 30, 2009

If you’re like us, you’ve read a few blog posts about the Open Graph API coming out from Facebook.

Most, however, aren’t too clear on what it is (though the same picture is shown over and over).

The best explanation we’ve seen comes from Facebook:

Open Graph API. Any page on the Web can have many of the features of a Facebook Page – users can become a Fan of the page, it will show up on that user’s profile and in search results, and that page will be able to publish stories to the stream of its fans.

Practical implications? Unclear. Does this undercut the Facebook Pages product itself? It’s all going to depend on the implementation.
