Maybe They Call Football “Soccer”, too

Written on September 11, 2007

From the developer board, one dev posts an interesting problem for Facebook UK:

“The UK networks are all named after cities, but the choice of which cities do and don’t have a network is very random. Whoever designed it never even considered that half the population don’t live in a city at all. In the north west, the only city with a network is Manchester, but there is a lot of competition between Liverpool and Manchester, Scousers would never join the Manchester network, so where do they go?

The UK networks should be for COUNTIES, which are the nearest equivalent to US states and everyone and every city is in a county.

Also in the Country selector, England, Scotland, Wales etc and listed as separate countries, which they are not, and there is no listing for ‘United Kingdom’ which is actually our country.”

An interesting problem. Part is simple cultural integration- Facebook needs to hire some Brits. The bigger reason? Users want Facebook faster than it can keep up (hence the attack of the clones).

(Thanks to Chris Claydon, who developed Profile Web Address and Surveys, Petitions, Votes, Polls & Quizzes).
