Platform for Mobile- No Service Here

Written on October 28, 2007

In a flurry of announcements, Facebook revealed that it has launched Facebook Platform for Mobile.

It’s a great opportunity for mobile developers- navigating technical and carrier restrictions on mobile is a serious barrier to innovation. But will it pick up on Platform?

The team at Lonely CEO is skeptical. After all- how do most applications spread? Virally. Mobile is not a browsing platform, and it’s not a platform where you’re as likely to “install” on the fly. Even more importantly, developers know by now that Facebook Platform Apps, even those for Facebook Mobile, can’t have too much utility. If they do, Facebook will implement the idea itself (and do it better).
