MySpace’s Burden of Proof
Written on February 1, 2008
Lonely CEO Media is a social application development and consultant firm. That’s our pitch, at least.
So why haven’t we been talking about MySpace?
The answer? The link above points to MySpace’s developer page. It’s blank, at present.
Equally unclear is what integration there will be with OpenSocial, what security measures will be in place, and most importantly, whether it will actually work. Facebook- a highly advanced tech company- has had scores of glitches. MySpace will be far worse.
As importantly, MySpace isn’t proven as a good conduit for brands. We don’t know how apps will be distributed, displayed, or controlled. Until that area is safer, it doesn’t make sense to recommend MySpace. Brands are reasonably reticent about taking risks on Facebook. They should be even more wary of MySpace.
Until MySpace proves itself, we’ll be sticking to the platform that we know works. Facebook doesn’t just work better for programmers- it works better for your brand.
