Inside Facebook- the Facebook Story

Written on October 19, 2007

Last night, I read Inside Facebook, a book about life at the company (before it got big).

Written before Facebook sucked up Silicon Valley’s hype, and before FB Platform sucked up developers’  time, Inside Facebook is a great look into the inside of the company (if a little brief).

There’s some key points for Facebook speculators as well. Looking into Facebook’s future is a little like looking at tea leaves. But there are some lessons Inside Facebook has, including:

1. The author seems to worship Mark Zuckerberg, or “Zuck”, as he calls him.

2. Facebook is driven by smarts, not pragmatism. This is an idea company first.

3. Facebook engineers work long, hard hours- though this may be true anywhere at a start-up.

4. Zuckerberg doesn’t want to be acquired.

5. Customer Service is a key part of the group (something developers may not realize).
