Good News for Developers

FB Wallet, the rumored Facebook Payment system, is asking developers to be part of a beta test and discussion.

So what does this mean? Well, if you’re a client, it may not mean a lot. Your app should promote your brand, and that may not translate to a purchase in the short term. The same goes for developers- micro-transactions won’t necessarily hit it big on Facebook. They haven’t elsewhere on the web.
However, in the long term it gives Facebook developers and users countless opportunities to expand their use of the site. It encourages users to tie their credit cards to Facebook, which is invaluable. Once that trusted source takes hold, it will be possible for developers to really monetize their applications without having to establish a user’s trust.
Just as Facebook removed the barrier to entry for developers who wanted to find traffic, they’ve removed the barrier to entry for developers seeking direct transactions. They won’t provide the answers, but they may provide some great new tools.
