In our own applications, we’ve largely stuck with a single image method, though there are exceptions. It appears that single images aren’t a rule at this point, but a strong hint. It might be prudent to expect a formal rule in the future.

What does it mean for developers? Probably less of a pull for users. But, at the same time, standardization of the feed, as painful as it can be in the short term, usually serves a long term good.
