Facebook Adds a Corporate Face

Written on January 9, 2008

Update: Like most good things, it looks like this one was just a glitch.  This time.

One of the interesting Facebook development issues for brands and companies is the tension between Facebook’s “real account” policy and the need to have a professional presence. Advertising buys, registration, and pages are tied to individuals, not companies.

That’s fine for small operations (including our own two man shop). But for your brand, it could be a real drawback to have one person pulling all the strings.

Today we noticed a possible change in direction on one of our recently launched applications, Friends & Characters. Though the formatting is still choppy, my response to user queries now appear with the application logo instead of my name.

That’s a great step forward. At Lonely CEO, we’ve always emphasized the importance of customer service. Now, on our applications and our clients’ applications, business responses aren’t bound to one person. It’s a small, but important, step in the maturation of platform.
