Does Community Matter for Developers?

Written on November 13, 2007

Looking through old posts about Facebook Development, Matt and I came across this post about being a Facebook Developer in Utah.

Being a Facebook Developer is already obscure enough of a job description (though it becomes more well known each day). But being one in a small community is even rarer. I’m based in New York, right now, and Matt’s in LA. We are able to go to developer garages, meetups, and other networking events.

Does it matter?

Probably not.

In our experience, most meetups are Facebook 101, not advanced thinking. And finding talent doesn’t have to be bound to one place or another. That’s the idea behind the internet. Sure, it’s been nice to meet with our clients. But the great thing about Facebook is that development can be independent of the place where it’s done.

Just ask all our users in Turkey.
